Welcome Message
Alii (Hello) and Welcome from the National Emergency Management Office!!!
The National Emergency Management Office or locally known as NEMO, is tasked with preparing our beautiful and pristine islands for a disaster or an emergency. NEMO assists the people in the Republic of Palau in all phases of Disaster activities: Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Our main goal is to minimize the impact of an emergency or disaster to people, properties, and the environment.
Fortunately for the Republic of Palau, we are located just outside of all major areas of natural disasters. We are located just outside the typhoon tract, have hundreds of tiny islands and a reef system around our populated islands to protect us from tsunamis, have no major dry season with the exception of the 1998 El Nino, and are outside of the earthquake belt. Although these natural disasters are rare, NEMO is still committed to and takes pride in preparing our islands for the worst-case scenario.
Other areas that NEMO is focused on is preventing and preparing for a terrorist attack, airport security and emergencies, oil spills, and upgrading our emergency communication network.
As technology continues to grow in our tiny island, NEMO will be upgrading our website to give you all the latest and greatest services and information possible. If you have any questions or need information on disaster management in Palau, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
Kom Kmal Me Sulang (Thank You) for taking a moment to visit our website.
