Description/Duties/Purpose of Office:
The Office of Public Health Data and Statistics (OPHDS) is responsible for keeping Public Health data and generating statistics and outcome reports based on the activities of the Ministry of Health Bureau of Public Health and other hospital-based patient care. The MOH Epidemiologist is based in this department. The MOH Epidemiologist provides data analysis, trending and reporting for the Ministry of Health and the Belau National Hospital. Epidemiology Mission Statement:
To provide quality data analysis and reporting using the most recent and available data to assess the health needs including disease, impairments, disability, injuries, and other health problems in Palau and the factors contributing to their emergence, severity, and consequences.
Services:
The OPHDS is responsible for entering all Public Health encounter data including dispensary and immunization records. This data, is stored and analyzed along with hospital encounter data by office staff for regular reporting and when special reports are requested. The Epidemiologist is responsible for overseeing the reportable disease surveillance system (RDSS) activities.
