Vision: Working Towards “Healthy People in Healthy Islands of Palau”

Mission: To protect the health of all people in the Republic by ensuring clean, safe and healthy living environments.

Division of Environmental Health (DEH) is the national environmental health office within the Bureau of Public Health in the Ministry of Health, Republic of Palau. There are currently four other state-level environmental health/sanitation offices for the States of Koror, Peleliu, Ngardmau and Melekeok. With the exception of Koror State Sanitation, the three other state sanitation programs rely on DEH (national) for assistance in all activities since all three are one-man offices. DEH has 20 Full Time Employees (FTEs) and 3 Interns (3 - Environmental Health (EH) Trainees). DEH offers the following services: Community Health; Pollution & Hazard Control; Consumer Protection; Food Safety; Vector Control & Prevention; International Health Quarantine; Emerging Issues & Special Investigations; and Emergency & Disaster Response. In addition, DEH has an Environmental Health Information System; Human Resource Development; Health Education & Promotion; and Epidemiology that are linked to the other divisions under the Bureau of Public Health (see DEH organizational chart in relation to Bureau of Public Health).
